Staying in a B&B is a uniquely British experience offering excellent value for money and a real insight into the British way of life. Accommodation is in private homes; perhaps a quaint country cottage, an elegant manor house, a farmhouse or an ancient castle. Your host will be willing to give you information on local places of interest so you make the most of your stay.
Facilities aren't as grand as in a hotel but your bedroom will be comfortably furnished with plenty of storage space. Many rooms have en-suite facilities, but if they don't, you'll find a shared bathroom close by. Breakfast will usually be a feast - enough to take you well beyond lunch time - usually you'll start with cereal or fruit, often grapefruit, then there's any combination of the following: eggs, bacon, English sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes, baked beans and bread and/or toast. In Scotland and Wales you'll notice interesting differences such as soda bread, smoked haddock or kippers. Similar concepts are guesthouse and lodgings.
